Summer weddings offer their own special charms but here in the south - and all over, really - they also offer their own set of challenges. Today I came across this great blog post by one of our local wedding planners, Gina Myers, of La Cosa Bella Events. She points out some important things to factor in as you plan your warm-weather wedding and you will find her post very helpful. PLANNER’S THOUGHTS: SUMMERTIME WEDDINGS IN THE SOUTH

Living in the south is wonderful for so many reasons. Most relocate here for good once they finish college or if that’s not possible they return to the area for their weddings. What’s not to love about Carolina? Well… except for our miserable humidity and sudden unexpected thunderstorms.
Summer months are gaining popularity for those that want to avoid peak-season venue charges.
SINCE THE TREND IS GAINING MOMENTUM, I THOUGHT I WOULD SHARE SOME WEDDING PLANNING TIPS:
TIP ONE: If you’re having an outdoor ceremony or reception, you should always have a back-up plan for inclement weather. If you don’t have an indoor option should it rain, then call local rental companies and ask about their tent policies. Two Hints for you: 1) Ask companies if you can reserve a back-up tent for half price and agree to pay the full price if you actually use it. 2) Agree with the rental company on how far out you will both speak and agree on whether to set up the tent. Negotiate as close to your wedding date as possible as weather changes quickly around here.
TIP TWO: Consider offering your guests a cold drink as they arrive to the ceremony. Ask your caterer to add lemonade, sweet tea or flavored water for pre-ceremony guest arrival. If this isn’t in your budget, consider offering personalized bottles of water. Two hints for you: 1) Stop serving 10 minutes prior so that glasses or bottles can be gathered prior to picture taking so they don’t appear in photos, 2) Make sure there’s a restroom nearby and convenient.
TIP THREE: Offer your guests a fan. You can opt to have cute and less expensive fans printed with your names and wedding date or hand out fans that serve two purposes, as both a fan and ceremony program.
TIP FOUR: Watch out for bugs! Hints for you: 1) Ask your venue how often and when they spray for bugs prior to an outdoor event and 2) make sure trashcans are as far from your guests as possible to avoid gathering bees.
TIP FIVE: Remember to mention on your wedding website that you are having an outdoor ceremony. It’s also great to mention on your save-the-date. It’s thoughtful to make guests aware so they can plan their shoes accordingly. If it’s in your budget, consider providing heel protectors for the ladies.
TIP SIX: Have cute bottles of sunscreen and bug spray available for guests to use. Hint: Personalize these bottles and avoid those with strong odor; natural ingredients are always a plus.
