This beaming couple - Leslie and Mark - decided on a quiet elopement about two weeks before they were wed. They live in Charlotte and were planning to come to Raleigh for a Dave Matthews Band concert when they started thinking about how DMB music has played a big part in their lives and how fun and romantic it would be to marry while they were in town... hmmm. Before you know it, they had contacted Gloria and Phil Teber at The Arrowhead Inn (a wonderful little Bed and Breakfast in Durham), Gloria gave them my number, and a wedding was in the air!
And what fun it was. The Arrowhead Inn has a log cabin and a cottage apart from the main house and when I arrived I met Leslie and Mark in the cottage. We talked over the ceremony and eased some performance jitters. Leslie and Mark were both glowing and her red wedding dress and his matching tie were perfect for the occasion.
I then went over to the main house to await their arrival for the ceremony. The front parlor was awash in Christmas decorations, complete with a magnificent tree that Gloria and Phil put up every year. With the glittering Christmas decorations all over the room, the smell of the tree and the glow of the fireplace, I felt like I was in a Currier and Ives print. (dating myself, I know) It was exciting to await the arrival of the soon-to-be weds with Gloria and Phil, who were to be the witnesses for the wedding.
After the ceremony, all three of us had our pictures taken with the glowing pair and took turns behind the camera. Unfortunately for Leslie and Mark, we are not professional photographers, but you can see in these photos how much kindness and happiness were in the room that night. You would have thought Gloria, Phil and I were their parents.
Eventually it was time for the happy couple to head out to dinner and then on to the concert. As I was driving home after the wedding, I found myself hoping someone would get the word to Mr. Matthews that there were newlyweds in the house so he could do a special acknowledgement for them.
Congratulations, Leslie and Mark. It was a joy to be a part of the beginning of your marriage. I hope your soon-to-arrive daughter has a smile and a glow about her like her parents on their wedding day. She is sure to be one radiant little girl and I can’t wait to see her photos!
Enjoy sharing your life and parenthood together - you are in for so many wonderful times ahead.
Update 2/23/13 - On Feb 20, Leslie and Mark became the very proud parents of a beautiful daughter and posted this sweet photo on Facebook. Congratulations to Leslie and Mark - they are in for so many wonderful times ahead!
