Kara and Perry Christen Their Son and Celebrate with a Birthday Party Afterwards

I had married Kara and Perry a few years ago and was so happy when they contacted me for their youngest son’s christening. In the photo above, Kara and Perry are standing in the back with the Godparents around them. Our handsome little man of the hour, in his white tux, is seated on the lap of a Godmother.

The celebration was going to be a combination family gathering, christening and birthday party and, because I was babysitting my grandchildren that weekend, Kara and Perry invited us all to come and stay for the party. It was great to be a part of such a special time in their lives and we all had tons of fun at the party that followed.

The ceremony was held in their spacious living room. One of my granddaughters was nervous about staying in the playroom with the other children during the ceremony, so Kara and Perry said it was perfectly fine for her to join us. She had never seen her Grandma in a professional capacity before and was mesmerized by the whole thing. That’s her in the pink sweater, standing beside me in the photo below. (Thanks, Kara and Perry, for being so understanding of a young child’s sensibilities.)

After the ceremony, the Godparents signed the Christening Certificate

and I got to meet a lot of the family and friends who had gathered for the christening. Here is Kara’s sister and her cute little son.

Pretty soon it was time for the birthday party and we all moved downstairs to the basement and back yard. Kara and Perry had put together a fun party for all the kids and parents, complete with a bouncy slide,

artificial snow (I didn’t even know there was such a thing!) - a HUGE hit with the kids

followed by a delicious meal designed to please kids and adults alike.

After the meal, everyone made their own s’mores,

indulged in the gummy worm-covered cupcakes

and enjoyed the winter wonderland theme cookies.

While the kids continued to play in the snow and jump in the bouncy slide, I noticed the men were working with a ladder and some cord outside. They were setting up a pinata! Many tried to break it but this young lady was the one who managed to get it open after much perseverance.

Later in the afternoon, there followed a movie for the kids in an alcove of the basement that was set up as a home theater.

Obviously, everyone had a great time and my grandchildren are still talking about how much fun it was!

Thank you, Kara and Perry for including me in the celebration of your growing family and for including my grandchildren at the party. You are every bit the fine people you were when I first met you so many years ago for your wedding and the life you are building for yourselves and your children is wonderful to see.
